When you are living in one of these houseboats, for sure you do not need a car for Amsterdam.
There are parking places on the street next to the boats but it is QUITE expensive.
Just go to the houseboat with your car at arrival, empty the car very well and leave your luggage on the houseboat.
After that drive your car in a parking-house so you are free of any thought about the car.
You get even a free ticket for the tram, just inform yourself well in the parking-house itself.
From 11pm Saturday evening until 9am Monday morning there is free parking next to the houseboats.
